Hunsley Primary – a new primary school on the £200m Brough South development – has been completed and opened in December 2018.
Hunsley Primary sits on a 1.4ha site in the mixed residential, retail, leisure and commercial scheme, currently being built in the east of the town on the south side of the Hull to Selby railway track.
The single-storey building includes a reception class and six year classes, each catering for up to 30 children, with potential for future expansion.
Outside facilities include a soft, landscaped playing field, football pitch, PE area, hard surfaced informal social area, and soft play area for reception-aged children.
Ian Hodges, managing director of the Horncastle Group PLC, described the school as a fantastic addition to the growing development.
The Horncastle Group is bringing Brough South forward on behalf of the Brough South Consortium, which includes the Horncastle Group, local landowners and developers Alma Jordan (Builders) Ltd, Riplingham Estates Ltd and BAE Systems Ltd.
Mr Hodges said: “Hunsley Primary is a high-quality addition to Brough South in every sense. The school is a thoroughly modern design which is in keeping with the wider development and it will provide children from the development, together with other local children with a first-class primary education.
“With this and the first phase of residential development currently ongoing, Brough South is now beginning to take shape, which after so many years in the planning, is fantastic to see.
“These will be joined in the future with a range of amenities including a supermarket and non-food shops, a family-friendly pub and restaurant, which will provide welcome additions to everything this popular East Yorkshire town already has to offer.”
Hunsley Primary will be managed by Education Alliance – a multi-school trust also including South Hunsley and Malet Lambert – and it replaces a temporary primary school located at South Hunsley.
