A schoolboy from Welton has won a competition to name phase one of residential development at Brough South.
Six-year-old Jack Barnacle, a pupil at Welton Primary School, triumphed with his entry, Harrier Chase, which judges thought best reflected the aeronautical history of the town.
Jack saw off stiff competition to win in the contest, which called upon children from local schools to suggest names for the housing development.
The development, which consists of 200 new homes, is being brought forward by Barratt Homes Yorkshire East and is part of the £200m mixed-use residential, retail, leisure and commercial development located on the south side of the town.
Jayne Patrick, School Business Manager at Welton Primary School, said the school was delighted when Barratt Homes reached out to them to help name the new development.
“The brief to think of a name synonymous with the history of the local area was a great research and creative project for the children, and we’re delighted that Jack’s entry was selected,” Jayne said.
Paul Hogan, Sales Director at Barratt Homes, added: “There were so many wonderful entries to choose from so our decision wasn’t an easy one.
“However, as the new development is near to Brough Aerodrome, where many Harrier Jump Jets were built, Jack’s suggestion of Harrier Chase really stood out to us.
“We liked the reference to Brough’s local association with the aviation industry, and we’re pleased to be able to create a lasting legacy with the name of the new development.”
Brough South is being brought forward by leading commercial developers, the Horncastle Group PLC, on behalf of the Bough South Consortium.
The consortium is made up of the developers, local landowners and developers Alma Jordan (Builders) Ltd, Riplingham Estates and BAE Systems.
