HIGHWAYS IMPROVEMENTS

As well as providing new homes and amenities in Brough, Brough South has also led to a number of highways improvements in and around the town which are benefiting local communities.

Brough Relief Road connects the south-west side of Brough with the A63 Welton Interchange.

The road was constructed in three phases and saw the official opening of the final phase connecting to Skillings Lane in March 2022.

Funding for the road, which relieves congestion from the town centre, has been provided by the Brough South Consortium, Humber LEP and East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The work was carried out by East Riding of Yorkshire Council..

As well as delivering the Brough South Relief Road, the Brough Consortium is also funding and delivering improvements to the A63 Brough/Elloughton/Welton junction as part of the Brough South Development.

The new junction comprises of a roundabout that will be built on redundant land to the south of the current junction, and will increase the traffic capacity of the junction to manage the extra traffic.

The junction improvements are expected to significantly reduce queuing and delays, particularly during peak hours.

As well as improving traffic access and flow, the scheme will improve pedestrian/cycle links for South Hunsley School pupils and other pedestrians wishing to access Welton village.

A Puffin crossing will be provided on Welton Low Road to allow safe crossing for pedestrians from Elloughton, and an extra wide Toucan crossing will be provided on Welton Road to enable safer crossing to the new segregated cycle/footway facility on the eastern side.

Work is expected to get underway in May 2023 and will last between 12 and 14 months. As the junction improvement is being constructed on land adjacent to the existing highway, traffic disruption during the works will be kept to a minimum.
